“1When humankind began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2the sons of God saw that the daughters of humankind were beautiful. Thus they took wives for themselves from any they chose.
3 So the Lord said, “My spirit will not remain in humankind indefinitely, since they are mortal. They will remain for 120 more years.”
4The Nephilim were on the earth in those days (and also after this) when the sons of God were having sexual relations with the daughters of humankind, who gave birth to their children. They were the mighty heroes of old, the famous men.”
The bible is not the only ancient text that describes the sons of “gods” getting it on with the Daughters of men. In the Greek and Roman mythologies there are sons of gods and mortal women which are the result of fornicating full-blooded style. Take Heracles for example or Hercules as the Romans called him. Heracles was the son of Zeus who had sex with the wisest and most beautiful of all the mortals (Human Woman) ”Alcmene”. Hera (Goddess wife of Zeus) was very angry at Zeus, and even more when Zeus fed Heracles milk from one of Hera's Breast when she was asleep (not relevant at all, but it shows a side of Zeus not many know about). Heracles was partially immortal and more skilled, and powerful than any other man. The purpose of bringing this up is because the bible does not describes with precise details how the hybrids between Gods and women differ from the common man.
Another observation we need to make is that in verse 2 it clearly uses the plural “Sons”, the meaning of this observation is that: as all we know from the New testament Jesus is believed to be the only son of god. Genesis 6 verse 2 clearly contradicts that, and as in any court, contradictions lead to take credibility away from a person. Should it be different for the holy book?
Does god having a lot of sons change things? I don't think so, one is free to have as many sons as one wants. However, something that is of my concern in verse 2 is that it clearly states that the sons of god “saw that the daughters of humankind were beautiful. Thus they took wives for themselves from any they chose.” What this sentence tell us is that human women did not have a saying on this, so if you were a human woman and a son of god wanted to have sex with you and make you his wife, you were not given the option to say “Yes, I do” or “No, let's be friend for a while first”. Coming from divine beings I find this behavior abusive, even in a European Cabaret women have more of an option than in Genesis 6.
Verse number 3 says that god does not want his spirit in human kind for any longer than 120 years. As always the bible is not very explicit and it is difficult to conclude anything certain as to what this means: It could mean that from that point on god would flood the earth and make the massive genocide after 120 more years (the bible talks about the flood from Genesis 6: 5 – forward). He also says that he will removed his spirit from humans, does that mean we do not have the spirit of god in us anymore? It is very possible since in Acts 2 1-3, it narrates how the holy spirits invades the apostles, meaning we lack it.
“Acts 2: 1-3 1Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.2 Suddenly a sound like a violent wind blowing came from heaven and filled the entire house where they were sitting.3 And tongues spreading out like a fire appeared to them and came to rest on each one of them. “
Another possibility is that god just wanted man's life spam to be no more than 120 years which, would be another contradiction, since people like Noah who lived after the flood lived hundreds of years.
“Genesis 9: 28 After the flood Noah lived 350 years.
29 The entire lifetime of Noah was 950 years, and then he died.”
According to Genesis 9:28-29, Noah lived a long time (950 years). Obviously the health care system of the Genesis era was really good, or it is a pseudo statement (another lie in the holy book). Whatever the case might be, these verses of the bible have a very confusing logic and seem contradictory.
Genesis 6:4 mentions the Nephelim but it does not clearly defines what they are. The Greek translation of the bible uses the word “gegante” intead of Nephelim, and in modern Greek “gegante” is “titan”, so we can conclude the Greek translation of Nephelim is “giants”. Many also claim that the Nephelim were the off-springs of the human women and the sons of God. The wording in the verse is not clear and it is not clearly stated that the Nephelim are their off-springs. It seems more like a reference in time, just a point of reference; When the Nephelim where on Earth the sons of god and the mortal women where having sex...
Nephelim are very controversial and even though they are mentioned very few times in the bible, modern scholars and investigators have dedicated years of their life trying to look for evidence of Giants roaming the Earth. Are they Dinosaurs? It would not make sense as the time line of Earth's zoology puts humans and dinosaurs millions of years apart. Maybe giant humanoids? Like Goliath? Like the Cyclopes in Homer's Odyssey? I have an investigation in its way about the “ancient aliens” theories, but they will come later, for now this documentary explain part of the theory. It also shows proofs that earth used to be more insulated from the Sun's radiation and known creatures used to be bigger because of the protection that this insulation created. The documentary includes a independent experiment, that is yet to be replicated but other scientists, but it looks like it is legit.
